William Preston and Dorothy Byron Lane Fund

The William Preston and Dorothy Byron Lane Scholarship Fund was established in October 1975 by Dorothy Lane in honor of her late husband, former Maryland Governor Williams Preston Lane, Jr. As governor, his administration worked towards improving public education and the mental health system of the state. He also set into motion the major highway improvements which resulted in a large increase in state sales tax revenue. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which now carries his name, was completed in 1952 under this plan. The fund was created to provide scholarship support to students enrolled at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
