Dorothy Anne Beatty Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Dorothy Anne Beatty Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in February 1985 through the generosity of the firm Piper & Marbury (now DLA Piper), the family, friends, and co-workers of Dorothy Anne Beatty, class of 1976, as a lasting tribute to her memory. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support to female students enrolled in the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.

A well-liked and respected member of the legal community, Ms. Beatty was known for her ability as both a lawyer and a teacher. After graduating from the School of Law in 1976, Ms. Beatty joined the firm Piper & Marbury, where she stayed for five years. She left in 1981 to serve in the Attorney General’s office where she became principal counsel for trial litigation, serving as the main trial attorney for the office and an advisor to other lawyers on trial strategy. In 1984, Ms. Beatty returned to Piper & Marbury where she developed an expertise in business litigation. She remained at the firm and began lecturing at the School of Law on “Women and the Law” until she passed away in January 1985.
