DLA Piper LLP Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Endowment

The DLA Piper LLP Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Endowment was established in 2017. The purpose of the fund is to provide endowed support for scholarships for students enrolled at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Scholarships will be awarded to students whose enrollment supports the diversity of the student body, consistent with the School’s policies concerning diversity of enrollment and support for diversity in the legal profession. Recipients will be known as the DLA Piper Diversity and Inclusion Scholars, and will be expected to foster a culture of inclusion at the School. The Donor may assign a representative to serve on a committee established by the School to develop and facilitate diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives.

The School seeks to enroll meaningful numbers of students from groups that have been historically discriminated against to ensure the students’ ability to make unique contributions to the character of the School’s educational and social environment. The School seeks students with varying personal characteristics such as geographic origin; cultural and language backgrounds; racial, social, disability and economic barriers overcome; interpersonal skills, demonstrated by extracurricular pursuits, work or service experience, and leadership activities; potential for intellectual and social growth; and other special circumstances and characteristics. It is the experience and expectation of the School that such characteristics, combined with academic skills necessary for sound legal education, will result in students making a special contribution to the educational community of the School.
